Motocross Kids (2004)

"He's not just some chimp, he's a motor monkey." - Callie

aka: Moto X Kids
A young motocross team must face their rivals.
Starring: Lorenzo Lamas, some kids, with Dan Haggerty and Garey Busey!

Dan Haggerty movies are always hard to find, so I had to settle for this monkey business...

Coach Evan
Lamas stars as Evan Reed, one of the best motocross coaches in the country. His teenage daughter Callie is one of the top riders, but she's had enough of the sport and decides to quit, so Evan goes to visit his old friend, Bear (Haggerty) for advice.
Bear owns a ranch where he trains young students to ride motorbikes and take care of animals, most notably there's a friendly chimpanzee. Bear has gotten himself into debt with a tough biker gang led by Evan's old rival, Viper (Busey) and is going to lose his ranch unless he can pay back what he owes. The ranch being closed would break the hearts of the three youngsters currently training, who all dream of becoming pro racers one day.

Bear

Viper and his gang kidnap Bear to let him know they are serious, so Evan goes to the rescue, and with help from the chimp he saves Bear from the gang. A few punches get thrown, but it's family friendly violence played for laughs.
The three kids get an idea on how to save the ranch by challenging the gang to a race, with the ownership of the ranch going to the winners. Viper agrees, but the kids must beat his sons in the race, and they are older, faster and meaner!
Bear and Evan are suitably pissed at them for setting up this race, but they see no other way to get rid of the biker gang.
To Evan's surprise, Callie returns to help him and Bear train the kids for the next ten days before the race.

Things don't go as planned though, when one of the kids breaks his arm in training! They'll never win being one rider short, so the chimp hops on a bike and shows off his mad motocross skills!!!! Okay, this is a bit bonkers, but whatever. I realized that I was invested enough to want to see these kids win!
With the team re-formed, it's time for the big race with the fate of Bear's ranch on the line!

Lamas, Haggerty and Busey don't exactly have a lot to work with, but they still give good performances which helped keep my attention. There's always something fun about seeing gritty actors in kid shows like this.
The movie is actually not that bad for what it is, it moves fast and keeps everything in the realm of believable, saving the "monkey on a motorbike" antics for the very end. The kids are smart and likable, portrayed as positive role-models for boys and girls, but there's very little here for adults in the audience to care about.

Be sure not to miss:
- There is some hilarious uses of unnecessary slow-mo. I laughed so hard beer came out of my nose!

Internet review:
"It wuz an ok movie. My dad is in it." - koolkatz

Should I watch it?
It's a pass, unless you really need to see a monkey ride a motorbike.

Where can I find it?
Right here on YouTube.
