When one of the team members, Bert, decides to parachute away with all the money, the rest of his gangs are furious. They land the plane near a deserted farm and start searching for Bert, but we know that he was just killed by supernatural scarecrows!!
The main two guys are Curry and Jack, who follow Bert's trail to an old spooky farmhouse. Kelly is forced to come along with them, but you can just forget about her dad because he literally does nothing but sit in the plane, totally forgotten.
There's not a lot going on at first but there's some pretty decent tension and suspense being built, as the gun wielding mercs wander around in the shadowy forest looking for their money.
We know the scarecrows are watching them, but the characters are unaware of the danger at this point. The scarecrows don't just attack directly at first, instead they play tricks on their victim's minds, making them see and hear spooky things designed to disorient them.

Eventually, all hell breaks loose when the scarecrows start picking-off the mercenaries one at time. Poor Kelly is caught in the middle of all the mayhem, but the guys do their best to protect her since she's the only one that can fly the airplane.
Things get very wild, with bloody gore and gruesome killings, but the movie still manages to keep the mix of fun energy and eerie atmosphere it carefully created. The entire movie is filmed at night, but instead of the shadows making everything obscure, they're effectively used to make everything creepy.
This is a small movie with a simple plot, but it fit together so well that I was surprised by how it consistently remained inventive and entertaining. No explanation is even given for the scarecrows, and we don't learn much about the characters, but somehow it all works anyways.
Be sure not to miss:
- Jack sure does miss his harmonica.
- The dog should have been given more to do.
Internet review:
"Scarecrows is fucking awesome!! That felt good to say. I’ll even say it again… Scarecrows is fucking awesome!" - Mike Freak
Should I watch it?
It's a hidden gem for sure.
