Detective Jersey Callum has encountered a troubling new case in which a local mortician has been doing some nasty business with the bodies of three children. The mortician claims they are supernatural ghouls he needs to protect, but of course no one believes him.

Det. Callum decides he needs the help of Alley, a psychic lady that he's worked with in the past, but she's sick and tired of being around dead bodies and it takes some persuading before she agrees to use her special gift to help Callum.

Along with Callum's young partner, Gordon, they arrive at the morgue to view the bodies, and Alley soon has a vision that foretells impending doom. She's right, too, because the dead children truly are monstrous zombies intent on killing everyone!
Alley, Callum and Gordon are now trapped in the basement of the morgue with the coroner, Mr. Shepard, and a young lady named Dana, and everyone's going to have to work together to survive the rampage of the bloodthirsty ghouls!

At first I couldn't figure out the tone of the movie; was it aiming for serious tension, or was it more of a horror-comedy. Well, it turns out that it's a bit of both, and it works perfectly.
The first act sets the scene and establishes the characters really well. I appreciated how they took the time to create a believable world and avoided clichés. But when the zombie party starts, wow, it's total insanity!

It's gruesomely morbid one moment and hilariously slimy the next, and this creates a great atmosphere where you never know what could happen next. And believe me, you will be surprised at what happens!
The special effects are great, with lots of blood, slime and mutating zombies, but the plot still keeps its focus on the likeable main characters as they try to survive.
One of my favourite aspects is Alley herself. She's an uncoventional heroine, but she's really the heart of the movie and she knows how to get the job done while everyone else is falling apart.

Tense, bloody, fun, and weird, The Boneyard deserves its place alongside the classic splatter horrors.

Be sure not to miss:
- What is that weird gun they find? It looks like something from Star Wars.
- What kind of building with an elevator doesn't also have stairs?
- Unexpected pillow fight.

Internet review:
"A treat for genre enthusiasts who feel like they've seen it all." - Hollie Horror

Should I watch it?
Highly recommended.
