Apparently, this Asia Invasion month was the best idea I've ever had, because it's been nonstop winners.
After an earthquake rocks the jungle, a giant ape has started roaming around smashing anything in its path, including small villages. A group of business men decide they need to stop the monster, so they hire a guy named Zheng (aka Johnny) to go on an expedition to hunt the huge ape.
It's a dangerous adventure into deep jungle until Zheng eventually finds the ape, but much to his surprise the beast is best friends with an American lady! Her name is Samantha Ah Wei, and she was stranded in the jungle as a small child when her parents died. She doesn't speak much, but she and the big ape live a peaceful life with the animal kingdom.

| Zheng Samantha LOL |
As Zheng and Samantha spend time together they start to fall in love, and this is how he convinces her to bring the ape to Honk Kong so that the whole world can see the amazing animal. They travel by ship, but once they arrive in the city the inevitable problems soon occur.
Zheng's greedy business partners just want to exploit Samantha, while the ape is put in a cage for the public to mock and yell at. Both of them realize that leaving the jungle was a big mistake, and you know what's going to happen next... Ape rampage!
There's no denying that this is a super bonkers B movie, but it's made surprisingly well with a really heartfelt story at its core. It's super cheesy in its attempts at being sincere, of course, but the narrative keeps you interested in the characters and their journey.
It's also very funny, with plenty of laughs and quirky things to see. Even the "falling in love" montage is hilarious! The special effects are quite extravagant, with amazing miniatures and creative uses of forced perspective.

The Mighty Peking Man is a lot of fun, and it's easily one of the best King Kong rip offs that you could ever hope to see because it has a big budget and a big heart.
Be sure not to miss:
- The tiger biting off a guy's leg.
- Zheng didn't have to think too long about sucking out the snake venom from Samantha's inner thigh.
- The ape is usually around 50' tall, but in one scene he's closer to 200'.
