I've really been on a winning streak lately!

An evil wizard named Traigon is planning on sacrificing his first born child so that he can gain more dark power, but when he sees that his babies are twin girls, he doesn't know which to kill first.
Luckily for the babies, a powerful monk named Krona steps in and kills Traigon (temporarily) and sends the twins to be raised in secrecy with a peasant family.

Now, twenty years later, the twins Mira and Mara have grown into tough warriors that magically live "as one," but Traigon has also returned and he sends his army to search for his daughters. After the twin's village gets destroyed they take a vow to stop Traigon, so they head-out into the world that they know very little about, seeking vengeance.

Mara and Mira
Along the way they find some helpful companions. There's the viking Baldar, a smug guy named Erlick, and even a weird satyr that I just named Goatman. Their adventure takes them to many new places and they find danger everywhere they go, with Traigon's soldiers always following them.

"Even the gods will do as I command." - Traigon

There actually are some unexpected twists along the way, especially once the twins become separated. All of the sword fights, wizardry and monsters you'd expect is here, but there's also an attempt at some intrigue that worked surprisingly well.

The other commodity the movie has is plenty of laughs, both intentional and unintentional. It never takes itself too seriously and there are quite a few jokes made, usually at how clueless Mira and Mara are about how the world works since the were basically home-schooled away from civilization.

This happens

This is one of the very first movies to capitalize on the success of the Conan movie, and they clearly had a decent budget here to make some great costumes, sets and special effects. But it's still very much a B movie, and it thrives on nonsense and chaos instead of worrying about making sense.
Rumour has it that a lot of the chaos can be attributed to the director and producer (Roger Corman) having problems with each other, but at least it guarantees that something bonkers is always happening.

As far as the swords & sorcery genre goes, this is a real wildcard that I consider a must-see, because it's constantly entertaining, bonkers and hilarious.

Be sure not to miss:
- The orgasm scene.
- We don't see it, but the girls comment on Goatman's erection. Gross!
- There are no sorceresses in the movie, so the title makes no sense.

Internet review:
"A gloriously goofy movie that I just love despite and because of its flaws." - mikecavevideo

Should I watch it?
Highly recommended.
