Annie
Annie's a teenage girl traveling through Kansas with her little brother and her dad. This is where they meet the wacky and re-occurring character of Charlie, who is running around in the forest looking for critters to kill. Seems like Charlie isn't too crazy though, because there are critters nearby and they lay some of their eggs in the back of Annie's truck.
(How the hell did Charlie, the most annoying character, become the one that's in every movie!?)
Anyways...
When the family arrives at their home in the city, the critters hatch and sneak into the basement of Annie's apartment building. We meet the varied residents who live there and all of them are worried about how the cruel landlord is trying to evict them so that he can tear the place down. The landlord's son, Josh, seems like a nice kid though.

It doesn't take too long before the critters kill someone and they begin their rampage through the building, eating everything they can sink their teeth into. While most of the residents are panicking, Annie, Josh and a lady named Marsha try to get control of the situation and find a way to fight back.
Eventually, Charlie arrives out of nowhere to help kick some critter butt.

    Josh                              Marsha                            Charlie
Sigh.
Unfortunately, this movie is nowhere near as exciting as it should be. Much of it consists of people running down hallways screaming at each other in an attempt to make it look like something important is happening. When in fact it's just pointless "stuff happening" instead of a plot, but at least it keeps things moving along quickly.

One of the biggest annoyances is that the entire scenario just seems so dumb. The critters cut the electricity in the building, which makes sense, but instead of Annie simply walking out the front door and using a nearby phone booth, the humans are desperately trying to escape to the roof for help. Why?
They are trapped by their own stupidity instead of any danger the critters impose.

The critter action is pretty fun and varied here, but it seems a lot less violent in comparison to the previous movies. There are a few good moments and humorous bits, but it's all random and gets too overbearingly slapstick at times.

Overall, this is so generic that it just comes across like a jumble of scenes strung together. It's not painful to watch, but there's just not enough heart in this one. It's like the writers had no ideas except for the basic outline of "critters in the city" and then they just went blank.
This is a very disappointing sequel.

Be sure not to miss:
- Thank god Frank dies. What a jerk!
Frances Bay has a small role.
- A scene plays during the end credits, forcing you to watch them entirely.
- Rats enough!

Internet review:
"This is such a giant step down, it's hard not to be disappointed." - dasMonster

Should I watch it?
Only for die hard critter fans.
