When a group of five college kids get lost off the coast of Florida, they seek shelter on a yacht they find floating unattended at sea. On board the empty ship they discover that it's some type of research facility for studying bizarre fish pulled from the deepest parts of the ocean. Despite the mystery of the abandoned ship, the kids are excited to enjoy the luxury of their own private yacht for the night.

It does take awhile for the excitement to get going, as the kids just hang-out and poke around the research lab for the first 30 minutes, but suspense is building as someone or some thing spies on them. When they find a demented professor aboard who's almost dead, the kids start to realize that they're all in danger from the strange specimens that have escaped from the laboratory.
Let the madness begin, as mutated zombie fish from the abyss unleash their wrath!

Madness is the correct term to use here because the movie doesn't restrain its imagination when it comes to what flying killer fish can do, and things get outrageously slimy and gruesome as the fish begin to mutate into larger, more hilariously terrifying creatures.

Setting aside the monsters, there's still plenty to entertain me here because the movie's weirdo charm comes from its inability to do anything right. The acting is that special type of awful that suggests the actors have never met other humans before, not to mention the voice dubbing which is some of the worst I've ever heard and has me convinced that the script was written after the movie was shot.
(In other words, I was quickly falling in love.)

"The fish frighten me... They have an evil expression." - Julie

The plot provides so much beautiful nonsense that it begins to accidentally make sense if you let your mind melt into the chaos. Watching the sexually depraved fish-freaks is comically repulsing and transcendentally awesome at the same time, which is a sure sign that I'm watching something special.

As someone who often feels like they've seen everything, it's refreshing to find a movie as demented as this to remind me that there are still plenty of trashy films that need to be seen to be believed.

Be sure not to miss:
- The fish drawings they find are pretty funny.
- Lamps with big penises is one thing, but the orgasmic mermaid clock is just creepy.
- The ship's alarm system has some unusual things to say.
- Rats enough!
