While traveling through the untamed desert, the warrior Thane sees a lady being attacked by evil knights, so he jumps into action and dispatches those brutes to rescue the lady named Melina. The knights were working for an evil wizard, Lord Khoura, who kidnapped Melina's father to get his magical sword. Thane agrees to help rescue her father, and they head off on an adventure.
In his spooky castle, Khoura is trying to unlock the secrets of the magical sword and gain its ultimate power, but he needs the blood of a virgin to perform the wizardry.
As Thane and Melina travel they encounter some dinosaurs, beautifully made with stop-animation, but they never interact with them and instead they just fight some desert hobos.
The start is quite slow while our two heroes wander around the desert looking for a famous seer, and Khoura tortures virgins in his dungeon, but there's more than enough cheesiness and odd characters to keep the fun alive.

Finally, Thane and Melina arrive at the Seer's hut, and things start getting more interesting. The movie is letting its sense of humour come through, going for a tone like The Princess Bride but no where near as convincing. Still, the movie knows it's goofy trash, and is wisely not taking itself too seriously.
The Seer is an eccentric old man that knows the secrets of Melina's family, explaining that she herself is the key to unlocking the sword's true power! Khoura's goons eventually kidnap her and leave Thane to die in the desert, but he's rescued by another warrior, Damon. When these two goofballs realize that they're equally skilled in combat and equally cheese-headed enough to be friends, they head off to rescue Milena and her father from the dungeons of Khoura's castle.

Thane: "You'd be a great benefit in rescuing this fair maiden."
Damon: "Does she have a sister?"

The jokes are subtle enough to not be overbearing, but the real comedy comes from the drama and action, as the intentional silliness is surpassed by the unintentional flubs. Like most sword & sorcery movies, some fights are decently executed while others are clearly being done by untrained actors.
The dialog is what's truly awful, but the talented supporting actors Waggoner and Tamblyn do their best to deliver it seriously. I can't say the same for the actors of Thane and Melina, because they're on a highschool level of bad acting here. It's great!
Honestly, I just can't deny the sloppy, stupid charm of this adventure. It's good fun once it gets going.

Be sure not to miss:
- Small roles from Michael Berryman and even Lawrence Tierney!
- All the dinosaurs are actually just stock footage from Planet of the Dinosaurs, which have been used in quite a few B-movies.
