A man simply known as the Nomad wanders through the desert wastelands of what remains of his civilization that has destroyed itself in a terrible war.

He is an ex-soldier of the past war but he's grown weary of violence, so when he comes across a small community that are fortunate enough to have their own water supply, he decides to stay awhile and earn food and shelter by helping with the daily chores.

The farm is run by Kasha and Tark, and Nomad finds himself at home with their kindness and makes a friend with Kasha's young son.
Trouble is on the horizon though, as a cruel man named Damnil claims authority over their land, hoping to gain access to the precious water supply.

Damnil sends men to sabotage the farm, but Nomad's instincts as a warrior kick in and he fights to protect the community. Now that Damnil is aware of what he's up against, he sends an assassin named Sho to get rid of Nomad, but Nomad's going to do everything he can to protect his new found home!

Kasha                          Tark                                  Sho                                  Damnil

I thought this was just going to be another post-apocalypse Mad Max copycat, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there's an actual dramatic story here. The premise of protecting the innocent from harm actually gives the movie a western vibe to it, with Swayze perfectly embodying the role of a soulful warrior that will never back down.

"I attract violence." - Nomad

There are some good fights here, but it's far from mindless action. If you're expecting explosions and violence every 10 minutes, you'll be very disappointed. The plot moves slow, but it's the good type of slow. A lot of care went into the dramatic elements that help establish the story and build the world around it. When the threat of Damnil comes, we actually care about the characters and hope that Nomad can fight back against all the odds.

Steel Dawn aims to rise above its meager B movie trappings, even if it may not have a lot of originality or budget to work with. Everyone involved gave it their all and created an entertaining movie anyways.

Be sure not to miss:
- The kid's name is Juggs?
- "You don't make me puke."
John Fujioka has a small role.
-  The title seems to be random. The words "Steel Dawn" don't connect to anything in the movie.

Internet review:
"It's an underrated cult-classic gem!" - ivo-cobra8
