Simon and Gulfax
In a chaotic age of wizards, warriors and footage stolen from the Deathstalker movies, King Tyler has brought peace to the land with the help of a magic ring. There's no time to relax though, because an evil wizard named Shurka promptly overthrows King Tyler with his army of warriors! Shurka wants to claim the powerful ring but it has been sent away to safety with a young magician named Simon...
Well, that was the plan but Simon accidentally dropped the ring before he escaped. So yeah, he's an idiot and the ring is lost.
That all happened in the first 5 minutes!

With nowhere to go, Simon wanders the wilderness with his furry companion named Gulfax, but he's determined to rescue the ring and use it to stop Shurka.

It's not long before Simon realizes that he sucks at surviving in the wild and he gets himself into danger, luckily a warrior named Kor comes to his rescue. Kor doesn't have much interest in 10 year old boys that don't have any wine, but he reluctantly agrees to help the kid get back home.

Kor (portrayed by a possibly inebriated Bo Svenson) travels with Simon and the unintelligible Gulfax, and they begin to bond and work as a team. Simon continues to find new ways to almost get himself killed as they encounter ghosts, zombies, a cyclops, and underage drinking. A lot of the monsters are stolen from other movies but at least Simon is learning how to be brave.
Their adventure just keeps getting weirder and more bonkers as it goes on, but despite being the epitome of sloppiness it also gave me plenty to laugh at.

"Bluhrr glaaargee" - Gulfax

Kor                                                               Shurka

As I suggested, this movie borrows footage from other fantasy films of the time, this was pretty common with the genre but it gets ridiculous here. (Why rent horses when you can splice in the ones from Deathstalker?) Even the action scenes use a variety of material, so watching Kor fight zombies from another movie entirely is pretty awkward.

Overall, the shortcomings of the movie only add to its oddly cheesy charm, and the sense of fun keeps everything moving along at a fast pace. The movie is damn terrible but I think the filmmakers were aware of that, so they just threw in every wacky idea they had and let Bo Svenson drink as much as he wanted.

- Hurl seems like my kind of guy.
- "We're running out of dwarfs."
- That glorious rainbow.
