Avenging Angel (1985)

It's been five years since we last saw Molly "Angel" Stewart, and she's completely turned her life around for the better. She's left prostitution behind and is now studying to become a lawyer at university. The friendly Lt. Andrews has helped Molly get her life together, and he's become like a father to her.
It's a good thing Molly left Hollywood Blvd when she did because the streets have become even more dangerous, as high class gangsters are killing anyone that gets in their way. Not even the police are safe, and Lt. Andrews is murdered while on patrol! Molly is devastated by the news, but she heads to the inner city to see if her old friends know anything about who killed Andrews.
The one witness to the crime is nowhere to be found, so Molly decides she needs the expertise of wily old Kit Carson, but there's one problem... He's been locked in an insane asylum!

It's only 20 minutes in, but the movie takes a turn for the worst. Molly and her goofball friends sneak into the asylum to break-out Kit, and it's all portrayed as some dumb comedy routine with a cartoonish trombone accompaniment. What the hell is this crap!? Where is all the edgy exploitation!?
Ugh, it is terrible but at least we get to see Betsy Russel in a nurse outfit.
Anyways, Molly realizes that if she wants to avenge Lt. Andrews' death she's going to have to work the street again as Angel, but this time she has her intellect as a lawyer to get the info she needs.

Kit and Angel, trigger happy

Hello
There might have been potential for an honest sequel here, but the brief moments of realism get overshadowed by the annoying attempts at slapstick comedy and unnecessary, nonsensical "action" scenes. It's cringe worthy.
Betsy Russel is pretty much the only redeeming factor. She does a good job at making Molly seem fearless and cool as she rallies the community of misfits together to save the Blvd from crime, corruption and crooked cops.

Ossie Davis also has an important role, and he's intended to add some credibility to the story. It doesn't work but he's always a classy guy.
During the last 20 minutes all I could think was, "Please end... This isn't funny... Just stop."

Be sure not to miss:
Robert Tessier has a small cameo. That was literally the highlight of the movie for me. Well, that and Betsy Russel dressed as a nurse.
