Goose is the leader of a street gang called the Ravens, and they're currently in a turf war with their rival gang, the Spiders, which are led by a mean psycho named Danny.Goose's girlfriend is sick and tired of all the violence and danger that he gets into, so Goose reluctantly agrees to quit the gang so that they can live happily together. Their happiness is short-lived though, because under Danny's control the two gangs have merged into one, and their first order of business is to kill Goose's girlfriend!
Now heartbroken, all alone and angry, Goose wanders the streets in a pit of depression. He stays with his crazy junkie father for awhile, as he drinks himself senseless and contemplates ending his life. But then an old friend from the gangs pulls Goose out of his hole, and offers him a chance to get back into the gang life.

Filmed over the course of four years whenever Jim Van Bebber had extra funds, this is independent raw filmmaking of the best kind, infused with a gritty punk energy that has rightfully earned this movie its long lasting cult status.
The violence and stunts are plentiful, visceral and shocking, making it ultimately more interesting than what you normally see in a polished action movie. Hollywood can fuck off, this is the real deal!
The final 20 minutes are a soul-crushing flurry of chaos and violence, as Goose exacts his revenge on the gang. I've seen every variety of gang movie imaginable, but this is something that completely stands on its own. There are even some experimental touches, which add some unique style to the simple, but unflinching story.
It's relentlessly gritty, bleak, and unashamed exploitation, but it also remains entertainingly fun, and even the flaws here can easily be viewed as clever filmmaking on a low-budget.
Deadbeat at Dawn is a rebellious and passionate ride you gotta take!
