Mac "Truck" Turner is living the rough life of a bounty hunter, chasing down scumbag criminals that have jumped bail or have a warrant on their head. It's a brutal and messy job, but Truck is one tough badass and he has no problems cracking skulls when he needs to.
Truck and his partner, Jerry, are on the trail of a dangerous pimp named Gator, which provides sloppy car chases and fist fights as they track the man through the city. The hunt ends with a shootout, leaving Gator dead and Jerry wounded. Sometimes the criminals are so bad they just have to be put down, but Truck does it with style.
It's not all hard work for Truck, as his girlfriend is just getting out of jail for petty theft, and he has to make time for some sweet loving. (It's Isaac Hayes, so of course there's gotta be some romance.)

Gator's death has stirred-up trouble in the pimping world, and his partner in crime, Dorinda, is now running the business. She's one vicious lady, and she tells all of Gator's friends that she wants Truck Turner dead at any cost.

Now that there's a bounty on his head, Truck has to deal with hitmen shooting at him everywhere he goes. Most of them are street goons that pose little threat, but things get more dangerous when Blue arrives on the scene. Blue is a cautious, intelligent and sadistic criminal that hires professional killers to get rid of Truck. Under Blue's guidance they terrorize Truck's personal life, and Truck's going have to survive the hardest fight of his life if he wants to serve justice.

The plot struggles to get going at first, but once the bullets and fists start flying there's always more action to see and it carries the story along nicely. The movie is violent, gritty and vulgar enough to raise my eyebrows a few times, but it also has a sense of humour which gives the intense villains some flamboyance instead of being strictly appalling. The main actors themselves are great, and Hayes even makes Truck Turner a bit more compelling than just a typical badass hero. This is pure blaxploitation at its finest, so the movie delivers what is expected and is a must-see for fans of the genre.

Be sure not to miss:
- Does Truck smell like cat piss for half the movie? Because he doesn't change that shirt for a long time even though it stinks.
- Cameos from Scatman Crothers and Dick Miller.

Internet review:
"This film is a super-sized jug of awesome!" - Salisbury
